Sight & Sound: I Will Wait with Hashim Akib

Featured: I Will Wait by Mumford & Sons and Brick Lane Sun by Hashim Akib

Sometimes we allow our expectations to cloud our perception of the present. When my thoughts try to merge my current status in this world with where I thought I would be at this age, I can’t help but feel like I’ve fallen behind. There are parts of life that you have to undoubtedly work hard for. However, where I struggle most seems to be the aspects of life I have to just let happen. No matter what I’ve accomplished, anxiety has the power to constantly remind me of the future’s uncertainty.

Mumford & Sons has always been a band whose lyrics I’ve struggled to fully grasp. However, their song I Will Wait speaks to me in a way that transcends lyricism. This song may very well not be about patience and having the faith that things will happen as they should. Regardless, I am reminded of these virtues with every listen.

I am consistently reminded of the beautiful street scenes of Hashim Akib when I listen to this song. Both truly invoke the feeling of standing in a crowd and feeling as if you are moving in slow motion. What I need to remember is that I am moving at exactly the right speed.
