About the Route

For this leg of your road trip, experience the best of bluegrass, horses, bourbon, America’s pastime, Muhammad Ali and more. Visit Lexington for a Horses, Hooch & History Tour. If you want to schedule a private horse farm visit, check out VisitLex.com’s “What to Do” pages for horse farm tour listings.

In Louisville, go to the Louisville Slugger Museum for a comprehensive view of America’s pastime and to tour the factory responsible for the universally loved wooden bats. Order your own personalized Slugger while you’re there. As you will already be on Museum Row, stop by Muhammad Ali Center and experience exhibits about the legendary boxer.

If you have always wanted to explore a cave and walking tours are not enough to satisfy the spelunker in you, go to Marengo Cave in Marengo, IN. They offer several “down and dirty” options for adventurers to don a headlamp and get muddy as part of a small group. Of course, a selection of walking tours is also available.

Side Trips & Must Do

Horse farm tour, bourbon distillery visit, Louisville Slugger Museum, Muhammad Ali Center, Marengo Cave exploration tour

Foods You Must Try

Derby Pie (bourbon, chocolate and nuts), Burgoo with mashed potatoes, biscuits with chocolate gravy, Kentucky Hot Brown (open-faced turkey sandwich), mint julep
